Eligibility Criteria For Admission To BE / B.Tech Courses

Share post:

The world’s technological landscape always displays the potential for improvement, growth, and development. Innovations in the field of technology have been of great use to mankind ever since. The tech sector employs millions of people globally in different fields.

The large-scale employability in the technology industry has led students to choose the Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech.) courses after school. The B.Tech. eligibility criteria are standard for all engineering colleges let alone some specific admission tests in certain schools.

Read more to find out the eligibility criteria for securing admission to various B.Tech. courses.

B.E. / B.Tech. course eligibility criteria and admission requirements

The eligibility criteria for B.Tech. courses are largely based on the high school and higher secondary board examination marks. Special focus is given to science subjects such as physics, chemistry, and mathematics. Most schools also look for the students’ marks and performance in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) before considering them for admission.

A few of the common eligibility criteria are listed below:

  • The student must have passed Classes 10 and 12 with an aggregate score of 50% or above.
  • You must score 50% or above marks in core science subjects such as physics, chemistry, and mathematics.
  • For getting admission through the non-examination pathway, you must have cleared the cut-off marks for JEE mains entrance examination.

Students who clear the cut-off marks of JEE examination will be called for centralized counselling based on merit ranking.

Various recognised institutions have specific entrance tests in place as a part of the admission process. Tests like UPESEAT (UPES Engineering Aptitude Test), CUSAT CAT (CUSAT Common Admission Test), GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering), etc. are conducted by specific universities to select their students.

Scope of B.Tech. courses

There was a time when B.Tech. was all about computer engineering. Now, times have changed, and students have the option to choose from a variety of subjects. From chemical engineering to mechatronics, the options are plenty for a student.

The field of technology has branched out into several other sectors. With Artificial Intelligence and machine learning occupying the future space, the scope of engineering has also expanded to include a wide spectrum of possibilities. Electronics, civil, mechanical, aerospace, fire and safety, automotive design, nanotechnology, applied petroleum, etc. are some of the popular branches of engineering studies. Besides these options, students can also choose to specialize in specific areas within their course of study taking the curriculum to next level of a learning experience.

What to do after B.Tech.?

The options after completing B.Tech. are also plenty. Many colleges have placement cells through which you can land a lucrative job with some tech giants like Google, Microsoft, Amazon, etc. Other students can opt for higher studies in the same field or related sectors with better prospects such as business administration or digital marketing. Beginning a start-up is also a good idea for B.Tech. graduates.

If you love science and technology and wish to be a part of the industry, apply now for a B.Tech. course of your choice.
